Montague Park

The installation of a sculpture garden on the grounds of Montague Park is an ongoing collaboration with the City of Chattanooga. The park is now in the planning stages for a revival. The new park plan calls for an international sculpture garden, an outdoor track and community soccer fields.

Montague Park possesses a long and varied history, which began nearly 100 years ago when T.G. Montague deeded 47 acres of land on the south side of Chattanooga to the city.  Since then, the acreage that began as woodlands and pasture in 1911 has had a number of lives.

When a large planned park was built on the land in the 1960s, it was "capped," meaning topsoil was added in order to build  baseball fields and other facilities. In 2003 Montague Park was closed to cap the land again to meet current environmental standards.

Montague Park is uniquely situated: it is just across the Tennessee Valley Railroad tracks from Cypress Corners. The railroad runs an historic steam train which takes passengers for a foray into the countryside. The proposed plans for Cypress Corners include a whistle stop cafe,  studio tour excursions, and Gulf Street entrance to the sculpture park.
